A very important aspect of the Common Core is that it encourages the student to be able to read critically.  The student must be able to do so in order to be able to draw out the inferences and subtle ideas contained within a given text. Simply reading what is written on the page is not enough. The student must be able to show understanding of the message that the author is trying to impart, and then show why this is so using the text itself to prove that the idea is valid. This can be very difficult for an educator to explain but there are ways to help this process. One way to help students to develop this skill is to have them ask questions. This allows the student to analyze their understanding of what the author intends. The following video gives some basic information about what close reading is and suggests some strategies toward teaching this skill.

One of the ideas presented in this video is that a key part of developing reading skills is interest. the instructor remarked that his students had submitted to his lesson, rather than engaged in it. this will be a major challenge for educators. in order to have the student engage the text, they must be able to see something that interests or challenges them enough to make them curious yet not so much that they feel overwhelmed. in this, I disagree with the idea of not prepping the students a little. I think that by giving a vague summary of the text, or by asking a couple of questions about the text before reading, the student is more engaged by the text. However this is only my opinion, what do you think?

Thing is no ones kid is the same. So even if they try it will not be the same because everyone precieves differently. So they may try but the knowledge will be taken by different minds and relations will never be the same.
This is exactly the idea behind the CC. one of the main stressors embedded within the entire concept is the diversity and multi-intelligence in the classroom. The ability of an instructor to approach the same concept from several different angles and on multiple levels along with technology being heavily used is the foundation underlying the whole mode that student teachers are learning. The only problem is that ideas like this take time to implement and even more time to come to fruition. Your comments are a great post for my blog, they are insightful and thought provoking, would you please post your comments on my blog?
