Common Core Concerns Revised this semester

Greetings, my name is David Freeman, I am an undergraduate student at Benedictine University.   I have decided to begin a blog on the Common Core. I am hopeful that I may presume that most of the persons who will be reading this blog are, or are capable of becoming, aware of what Common Core consists of. One of the reasons that I have decided on this subject derives from the amount of debate that I have observed from the different persons in my life, both teachers and students, and various media publications. The debate and responses have left me rather confused about whether Common Core will be a major improvement that will bring all students up to the same level in preparation toward career and college as it has been touted, simply a fad that will be obsolete in ten years,  or if it is just another way to teach to test. This is all I have to say for now, let me know what you think.

Writing Standards 6–12
3.
Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using
effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.
 a.              Engage and orient the reader by setting out a problem, situation, or
observation, establishing one or multiple point(s) of view, and introducing a
narrator and/or characters; create a smooth progression of experiences or
events.
b.             Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, description, reflection,
and multiple plot lines, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.
 c.              Use a variety of techniques to sequence events so that they build on one
another to create a coherent whole.
 d.             Use precise words and phrases, telling details, and sensory language to
convey a vivid picture of the experiences, events, setting, and/or characters.
 e.              Provide a conclusion that follows from and reflects on what is experienced,
observed, or resolved over the course of the narrative.

I have begun this class again and hope that this time I do better. Maybe I could even get some responses this time.  Since I began blogging about Common Core, I have started to notice all the controversy that is being debated.  Administrators, teachers, and students are all upset over what they see as another test that is only there so there can be a statistic for some bureaucrat to point to to prove that they are doing their job.
